SHRINK WRAP - DEFINITION

Shrink WrapShrink wrapping is the process of encapsulating a product or products with a special film that is then shrunk around the product using heat which establishes a high gloss protective finish around the product giving it a clean, fresh and finished look. The 2 most popular shrink film materials are PVC and Polyolefin, with the latter being the more popular choice amongst most contract packagers. Shrink wrap is a great way to enhance and ‘finish off' the look of a product that will end up on a retail shelf. It is a presentable and attractive packaging solution for almost any type of consumer retail product. Some of the reasons you should strongly consider a shrink wrap packaging option for your product include: Increased perceived value thru high gloss finish, protective finish, cleanliness, tamper evidence and tamper resistance. The standard gauge, or thickness, for shrink film is 60 gauge, followed by 75 gauge. 100 gauge film (1 mil) is used for heavy products, and 125 gauge (1.25 mil) is used for applications requiring maximum strength. Conversely, we offer a “soft shrink” film that is of a thinner gauge (40-55 ga.) material and has modified shrink characteristics. This allows us to shrink wrap a thin or “flimsy” product successfully without any of the corners being bent or damaged.
